is one of the villages along the bay of ▶ Rethymnon on the island of ▶ Crete. The city is |

The village is frequently also called "Platanes" and even a sign by one of the village entrances shows this name.
One more Platanias lies In addition there are five "Platanos": one each near ▶ Kastelli Kissamos, Aghia Galini and Mires, and two between the Orno mountains. |

However, this list is probably not complete.
So you will be well advised to ask for "Platanias Rethymnou" which means Platanias near Rethymnon: This way everybody will understand which one you are looking for. This Platanias has many smaller hotels and private apartment facilities, and the shops and restaurants on the scene are prepared for the demands of individual tourism. |
